Scholarship Information

The Gary Hammond Scholarship is designed to recognize and reward two graduating seniors who have demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, commitment to their team, and active engagement within the school community.

This scholarship aims to support one male and one female student who have excelled not only academically but also as integral members of one of the four varsity sports teams: Lincoln Charter School, Bandys High School, East Lincoln High School, North Lincoln High School.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be a graduating senior of one of the four schools listed above.
  • Applicants must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 during their high school career.
  • Applicants must have participated in varsity sports for at least two seasons.
  • Applicants must be planning to pursue higher education at a four-year university with priority given to those planning to participate in college level club or competitive athletics.

Selection Criteria

The selection committee will consider the following criteria when reviewing applications:

  • Academic achievement: Applicants must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0.
  • Participation in varsity sports: Applicants must have actively participated in varsity sports for at least two seasons, demonstrating commitment and dedication to their team.
  • Engagement within the school community: Applicants should have a record of involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership roles, volunteer work, or other forms of community engagement within the school.
  • Sportsmanship: Applicants must exhibit exemplary sportsmanship both on and off the field, displaying honesty, respect, empathy, responsibility and service.
  • Commitment to the team: Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to their team, showing leadership, teamwork, and dedication to achieving shared goals.

Award Details

  • The one time annual scholarship amount will be awarded to one male and one female recipient depending on available funds.
  • The scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the recipient’s chosen four-year university after the successful completion of the first semester. This may be to cover the costs of tuition, fees, and/or other educational expenses.
  • Recipients of the Gary Hammond Scholarship will be recognized at senior awards night hosted by the respective high school.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The scholarship committee will be committing the full Gary Hammond Scholarship award money to the Hammond children during the year in which they graduate from high school. During these academic years, this will not be an open application scholarship process.

Application Process

  • Interested seniors must submit a completed scholarship application form, including academic transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and a personal statement highlighting their involvement in varsity sports, commitment to sportsmanship, and engagement within the community.
  • Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of faculty and board members of the Gary Hammond Scholarship committee.
  • Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview as part of the final selection process.

Deadline

  • The annual deadline for submitting scholarship applications will be the last day of the third quarter of the student’s senior academic year.

We are truly grateful for the incredible response to this year’s Gary Hammond Scholarship.

The outpouring of applications from so many outstanding student-athletes across our four schools has been humbling and a testament to the exceptional young people in our community.

We have reached capacity for this application cycle and are no longer accepting submissions. The selection committee looks forward to reviewing all applications and announcing this year’s recipients.
